Interesting concept ....Marketing maniac attacks Reno Residents. If he was so successful in making money, then why is he stealing from others. Guess it's just another scam! So here's a bit of info :) Now keep in mind that Chris Tinney is NOT on the Spread Peace Cafe...think people, think! Why is that? Non-profit vs profitable franchise??? Maybe...maybe not. I'll leave this here until we see! How does Chris and his wife actually pay their own bills? Are any of these things still legit? Has anyone ever googled their name with "scam" after it? Try it sometime!
Spread Peace Reno, a self-proclaimed Non-profit and supposed church, however they do not come up under non-profit searches with the IRS or with the State of Nevada. I can find no proof that they are actually a non-profit and the only “documents” they do provide is their tax-exempt status letter which was obtained by providing false information. My concern is that they are not a non-profit and are collecting large amounts of money under false pretenses.
They have been collecting money under the name of Spread Peace Reno in Nevada since at least February or March of 2009. They claim on their Facebook page that they have 20 local businesses donating $100 a month each and they are holding fundraisers to collect more. They have individuals who donate via PayPal on multiple sites. They ask for money and actively seek “Peace Pals” who pay one-time and monthly donations via Paypal links on several of their websites, not just one. They ask for money and direct people to those Paypal links on their Facebook groups too. When questioned about where the money is being spent, no direct answers are given. Instead, guilt stories about how questioning what they’re doing “hurts homeless people” are all they reply with. To my knowledge, they do not have budgets or expenses available for anyone to view and their bank records are not being monitored by anyone but Chris and Tysha Tinney. Now they have started a business with a wealthy resident that they befriended here about a year ago, Randy Tam. The business they’re involved in is called “Spread Peace Café” which is getting attention because the business claims that when you buy food from them, they will buy a meal for the homeless under the supposed non-profit Spread Peace Reno.
Spread Peace Café does come up under a search for businesses in Nevada but again, the non-profit does not, no listings anywhere that SpreadPeace.org or Spread Peace Reno is actually a real non-profit.
They claim to be a branch of the internet church SpreadPeace.org which is the same two people, Chris and Tysha Tinney. They collected money from Paypal links to travel the country on their “Peace Tour” until they landed in Reno, Nevada. There is at least one blog from a member of their online church stating that they are money scammers. Chris and Tysha Tinney admit to renting 36 Vine St. Reno, NV 89502 as their residence (on one of their other website blogs and includes pictures of the house when they rented it) and it is well known that they live in that house yet they told the Nevada Department of Taxation that it was the church’s location and that it was not a residence. They provided no documents to obtain tax-exempt status other than an application, according the investigators I spoke to at the Dept.
They are visibly doing things to feed homeless people in downtown Reno. They post several videos, websites, blogs, press releases and more about what they do but they also visibly get tangible donations from several sources, of clothing, food, supplies.
My concern and the reason I am requesting investigation is that they are collecting money as a non-profit but that it is being done so dishonestly, evading tax and not being used for the purposes by which it was collected.

I love that homeless people are being helped but I don’t want others being scammed into providing these people money for their own personal benefit at the same time. Proof of their non-profit status should be available and proof that the money being donated is going where it is saying it is going is a reasonable request. More people are now being drawn to their donor sites because Yoko Ono tweeted about the business that they are opening so the potential to get thousands of dollars dishonestly is very likely.

Who can you ruin today?
Isn't it amazing how people just swoop in and take over a city. The prey on peoples BIG hearts to make them feel better or rob you blind. This just cannot be happening now can it? WRONG!
Like Megan and Ron...I'm obligated to share with the world that Spread Peace Reno is out for nothing but capital gain! Some crummy non-profit that has used a "church" to gain status. Boy I sure hope people have asked if their deductions are deductible.
The tip of the iceberg lies in the fact that Tent City is a VERY hot topic in the area. Chris made it a habit to video everything out there to get more exposure and more donations. Did he? No one will ever know. Volunteers continue to pour their hearts and souls into the people of the community. They seem to be sitting pretty with fans all over the US, but do they really know what's going on?
Spread peace Reno gain popularity by using the residents of Tent City. Spread Peace Reno's motto "Who can you help today" seems to only apply if they feel your worthy of their time on any given day. Ten minutes to video tape them giving PB & J sandwiches out and off they go! Nice huh? It's the starving people that have made them a success as they are left behind.
Now I'm not saying that they are not going to be fed. Many churches, organizations, and individuals have come forward to help! For months, Spread peace Reno has boosted donations and efforts by promoting that they are out there 7 days a week! Street Teams handle different days and give it their best shot. But somewhere along the line, the people, not the organization, is furnishing the food and supplies. Now that the Reno Sparks Mission is going to handle cooking the food for everyone in that area, Spread Peace Reno's creators have abandoned the residents of Tent City. Like they didn't see this coming right?
Northern Nevada Food Bank has joined up with Spread Peace Reno or visa versa...whatever the case may be. Now that they have lots of food to give away, Tent City apparently doesn't matter to them anymore. They got enough exposure from them to move on to something else. A mobile food pantry. Yea, I know, it sounds great! And it is! But it's not a new idea be any means. Many outlining area transport food to people!
How are you going to fill out paperwork for all these people? Does Spread Peace Reno have to get ID, intake forms, ask income levels, or do they get to do what no one else with NNFB gets too? Not fill it out? Lie?
Where's all the money that was donated to them? How come they are always out of food and other items needed? Seems by all of the pictures that their life is rather WELL. Oh maybe they just use their popularity to get free meals off other businesses. No one will ever know the answer now will they. People sent tents from all over the country! I was truly impressed by the photos. I just cannot figure out how Randy's name isn't boosted all over the place too. I guess he's in charge of the cafe, not the tents. Hmmm...makes you wonder doesn't it?
Pot exchange? What the heck is this about? Not that kind of pot silly...the kind you cook in! How many people are going to get sick? Is this going out to Tent City? Please transport food properly. I know it's just another leap to get attention but this could really cause some damage! Especially for people who don't have insurance to go to the ER after puking up! Just more marketing if you ask me! But no one is!

Maybe you should quit hiding so much and come and and see what damage has been done! People go to church to confess their sins. Where do you go? The Peace House? Do you realize what could have been saved in the whole community if you would have had the balls to address the people it concerned FIRST? As a pstor you felt obligated to inform people of this mans life? Did you obligate yourself, as a man of GOD, to get the facts? What were you thinking old man? No one is perfect, but from what I understand is that you, and Spread Peace Reno, and the Spread Peace Cafe had already ruined his families annual income by removing their band from playing at the Cafe when it launched. You hide behind GOD and dare to call yourself a pastor! I spit on your shoes! Namaste for you... NEVER!
As for the lady who jumped the gun and started this whole mess...Miss Megan, are you proud? You think your protecting others when you just put others in harms way! I'm sure that you are spreading peace every day of the week aren't you? Running a little scared by now I'm sure too. This is what happens when your not an adult about real things, real facts, and real PEACE! I can see why you have really been plugging Spread peace Reno. You'll stomp on anyone who gets in your way too now wouldn't you. You don't think ahead either. Anything to make yourself feel "secure" regardless of what happens to others. SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!. Go to the Peace House, have some POT, you should have plenty of food from the Northern Nevada Food Bank to munch on.

We all know it's just to get popular nationwide, or worldwide, to franchise it and make them rich by using the public's hearts to get there. Oh wait, Chris' name isn't on the Cafe (yet), we might have a chance of having a decent management. When this Cafe opens, is Spread Peace Reno going to drop the food bank too? Volunteers are going to have to take over that route. I hope their budget includes gas money for these people who are pouring their hearts and souls into helping others with nothing to gain but self-satisfaction.
